Bio 1

Margaret Burk co-produces and co-hosts three monthly storytelling events in Oak Park/River Forest: BACK ROOM STORIES at Hamburger Mary’s, Illinois Storytelling’s series at Dominican University, and Do Not Submit Oak Park at the Eastgate Cafe. After a career in fundraising for arts organization, Margaret returned to her love - the spoken word. She performs throughout the Chicago area and believes in the power of story, not only to entertain, but to touch the heart, spark the imagination and embolden the spirit.

Bio 2

Margaret has told numerous places around the Chicago area, including The Moth, This Much Is True, Homewood Stories, Story Sessions, Story Club, The People Tree, Stories of Impact, Chicago Celtic Festival, Fox Valley Folk Festival and Illinois Storytelling Festival. She was featured at Bady House Concerts in Brooklyn, NY. Her one woman show ‘Bring It On! has been featured at the Celtic Knot in Evanston and at Northlands Storytelling Conference. She is President of Illinois Storytelling Inc, a state-wide association of storytellers, and believes in the power of story not just to entertain but to touch the heart, spark the imagination, and embolden the spirit.

BIO 3

Margaret Burk brings decades of performance, teaching and producing experience to her storytelling programs and workshops. Margaret has a B.A. in Theatre and M.A. in Communication. She taught theatre at Kennedy King College and was a founding member of the Bread and Roses Theatre Company. From 1990 – 2002, she was Director of Development for the Chicago Sinfonietta and was named as “100 Women Making a Difference” in Today’s Chicago Woman Magazine. After a career in arts administration, Margaret returned to her love - the spoken word. She performs throughout the Chicago area and is President of Illinois Storytelling, a state wide association of storytellers. Margaret believes in the power of story, not only to entertain, but to touch the heart, spark the imagination and embolden the spirit.
